On subway line 1—currently Beijing's least modern subway line— 19 old trains will be decommissioned by the end of next month. This move signals the end of Line 1's old-fashioned carriage trains and the beginning of a much needed upgrade. A total of 70 trains will service Line 1 in the future, which will decrease the train interval time to 2 minutes, 5 seconds during rush hours. It is understood that each section of the new trains will be equipped with foldable chairs and four priority seats for the sick, disabled, pregnant or elderly.
