is this supposed to make me feel sorry for bar girls, massage girls and the like? they made a choice like anyone else. they weighed the rewards vs the consequences. what about migrant workers who do a lot more than drinking and sex to earn a living and only get a small fraction of what bar girls make. (drinking and sex are pleasurable to women just as well as men). very simple, legalize prostitution so women can freely control their own destiny in this business and deal directl with clients instead of having to rely on middle men.

when I was discharged from the us army many many years ago I hitchhiked all over the usa.always picked up by some pretty weird people, some religious freaks, some hippies, sometimes girls&sometimes guys.i never went with the girls because I was
cautious,not about sex hell I was a soldier&taking
risks was normal.i was picked up hitchhiking many times by homosexuals offering money.....i did not cross that line...i was poor hungry hurt no roof over my head and had the clothes on my back....so no I have no pity for anyone that sells their body, soul&dignity.i would starve, sleep in snow, rain,be a street beggar before I sink to a place no amount of shiwering can make better

risks was s.o.p.i was mostly short on cash as I was always on the go.i had been hurt bad in the military&was hospia

And what if you had to do it to feed your family? These girls are not local girls they are usually migrant county side girls doing whatever they can to send money back home.

It's to bad your compassion for others is so low just because you never had to go down that road.

Fascintating article. essential for any expat male bachelor living in china. to be honest, it is very hard to understand how the system works here visavis bars and working girls so it is great to learn the relevant chinese words. interestingly the words '陪酒女郎' ('barmaid') do not seem to translate very well using google or bing. can anyone provide an alternative to? the translation 'barmaid' sounds quite inaccurate.
