After being immensely popular with the locals last year, the Guangzhou “Town God” (广州城隍爷) will be paraded around again on February 11th, as the highlight of the Guangfu Temple Fair (广府庙会). The parade will begin at 09:30 in Chenghuang Temple by Zhongyou Square (城隍庙忠佑广场). From there the Town God will be head down Zhongshan Xi Lu (中山四路), turn on to Wende Lu (文德路), then turn on to Wenming Lu (文明路), then turn on to Bejing Lu (北京路) and then turn back on to Zhongshan Xi Lu before finally heading back to Town God's Temple Zhongyou Plaza. The full parade should last about two hours.
About 800 people are expected to participate in the parade, which will be divided up into ten square formations of parade-ers, who will do various folk culture performances as they march along. Many participants will be dressed in traditional "Hanfu" dresses, and others will be holding up placards which say such lucky phrases as "Good weather for crops" (风调雨顺) and "The country is prosperous and the people live in peace" (国泰民安). In addition to the Guangzhou Town God’s "entourage", there will also be Taoists from Hong Kong and Singapore participating in the parade as well. Oh, and as if that weren’t enough, there will also be two blue-eyed American pengyoumen participating in the parade as well.
