Hangzhou Transport - Train

The main Hangzhou railway station is known simply as Hangzhou Railway Station (Hangzhou huochezhan) or as Hangzhou City Railway Station (Hangzhou chengzhan huoche zhan). The city's second station is Hangzhou East Station (Hangzhou dong zhan).

The main station serves as the terminus for fast inter-city services, while Hangzhou East handles slower traffic stopping at intermediate destinations. For travel between the two stations, travelers can choose between public bus K518 or a taxi ride of about 20 minutes.

Rail journey times to major destinations: Beijing (13 hrs), Shanghai (1.5 hrs), Ningbo (1.5 hrs), Xian (14 hrs), Nanjing (6hrs), Wenzhou (7hrs), Zhengzhou (13hrs), Nanchang (4hrs), Guangzhou (20hrs)

Tickets can be bought at Hangzhou Railway Station, through hotel travel services or at ticketing offices in town.

Travelers heading for northern destinations (other than Beijing and Shanghai) should make inquiries about the most convenient travel option. In some cases the service from Shanghai is much faster. For example, the fastest Shanghai-Zhengzhou train takes 6.5 hours, while the direct service from Hangzhou takes at least 13 hours, so it makes sense to travel to Shanghai before joining a Zhengzhou train.
