Kunming has two railway stations: Nanyao Station and the Northern Railway Station. Nanyao Station is located approximately 4 km (RMB 10, 12-15mins in a cab) from the city centre. The station is also served by a number of bus routes, including No. 68 to the Expo 99 Garden and No. 80 to the Xiyuan Bus Station.
The Northern Railway Station is located approximately 3 kilometers north of the city center. From there travelers may cross the border into Vietnam, with trains departing to Hanoi every Friday and Sunday. Travelers should make sure they obtain the necessary visas in Beijing, Guangzhou, or in their native country.
Most hotels in Kunming provide rail ticket booking services. Alternatively, travelers can go directly to the central ticket office near Nanjing Hotel during its operational hours of 8 am – 5:30 pm.
