Pudong International Airport (PVG) and Hongqiao International Airport (SHA)
Shanghai has two international airports, Pudong International Airport (PVG) and Hongqiao International Airport (SHA). Pudong International Airport serves as an international gateway while Hongqiao handles domestic flights.
Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) is approximately 30 kilometers outside the city center, while Hongqiao International Airport is about 13 kilometers from Shanghai. Pudong currently serves more than 50 airlines from home and abroad that connect to more than 70 international cities and 60 domestic destinations.
Domestic-international transfer travelers and vice versa usually have to make their way from one airport to the other to complete their journey. A shuttle service connects the two airports, and the journey time is usually about 1 and a half hours. Shanghai Pudong International Airport
also offers shuttle services to the Jingan Temple (RMB 19), Zhongshan Park (RMB 20), Shanghai Railway Station (RMB 18), Galaxy Hotel (RMB 20), Hongkou Football Stadium (RMB 18), and Shanghai South Railway Station (RMB 20).
Travelers can also commute to and from the airport on the Maglev Demonstration Line. It travels between Pudong International Airport and Longyang Road Metro Station in Pudong New District. It runs every day from 7:00 to 21:00 at regular 15-minute intervals, and the 30 kilometer journey takes just eight minutes. The fare is RMB 50 one-way (regular) and RMB 100 (first class), RMB 80 round-trip (regular) and RMB 160 (first class).
Travelers can also commute to and from the airport by taxi. But this can be a slow and costly option.
