The city of Xiamen was one of the most important ports in the area after the Nanjing Treaty was signed, as a consequence of which it has a well-developed transport system. The city is easily reached by road, rail and air from most major cites in Fujian province, with daily services by rail and air to cities such as Beijing and Shanghai.
